Air India domestic baggage allowance
For passengers travelling in the first class, a total of 40kg is allowed. For those in the business class, only 35kg is allowed. The checked baggage allowance for passengers in the economy class is 25kg. Infants in all these classes are allowed to carry 10kg as checked baggage.
What happens if my luggage is overweight? For hold luggage, most airlines set a weight limit for single items of luggage. Usually, this is 23kg. If your hold luggage is over and you haven't paid for extra, you might be charged.

You can pay for luggage at the airport, during check-in/bag drop OR ahead of time when purchasing the ticket. With some airlines, it is MORE expensive to pay for it when you're at the airport, than if you paid ahead of time.
Overweight baggage
The maximum weight in Premium and Economy is 23kg per bag. If yours are heavier than that, you'll need to pay an overweight baggage fee at the airport. In Upper Class the maximum weight is 32kg per bag.
As long as the total weight does not exceed 25 kg., you are ok. Then you can check in as many bags as you like. After this excess weight rules apply.

For excess baggage in IndiGo airlines, a passenger has to pay INR 400 per kilogram, additionally. One can also book pre-paid excess baggage by visiting the airline's website or by calling the airline's call centre. It can be done up to two hours before flight departure.
