Is it safe to travel to Cyprus right now? ›

Yes, Cyprus is generally considered safe for female travellers, including those travelling on their own. Crime rates are low but personal attacks, including sexual assault, do happen. The UK Foreign Office says that drug-assisted rape is a risk in Cyprus, and includes the use of drugs such as GHB and liquid ecstasy.

US passport holders do not require a visa to enter Cyprus for a stay of up to 90 days. The Embassy can only issue visas to individuals intending to visit Cyprus for vacation or business purposes. The validity of the stay cannot exceed 90 days within any 180 days.

Don't leave valuables unattended, watch out for pick pockets in public areas and be sure to have travel insurance for your possessions. Always keep your passport, air ticket and other valuable items in a safe place. Report any incidents of crime to the local police and get a police report.

The Cyprus Buffer Zone is a demilitarized area that acts as a partition between the Republic of Cyprus and the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Created in 1974 in the wake of military conflict, this stretch of land is monitored by the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP).
