Disney Dreamlight Valley is a 2023 life sim-adventure game developed by Gameloft Montreal and published by Gameloft. In this game, players explore and tend to a magical valley filled with Disney and Pixar characters.

The game was released in early access on September 6, 2022, for those who purchased a "Founder's Pack" or have an active Game Pass subscription. It was fully released on December 5, 2023.

The game receives regular content updates about once every two months, adding more villagers, furniture, clothing, motifs for clothing customization, "Star Paths" (the game's equivalent of a "battle pass"), "realms" (worlds based on Disney and Pixar films), features, expansions to the main story, quality-of-life improvements, and bug fixes. Additional hotfixes are released between updates.

Monetization

Type Notes
Expansion pack A Rift in Time expansion.
One-time game purchase Although initially planned as a free-to-play title, the game's early access success led to Gameloft deciding to keep it a premium release.

Microtransactions

Type Notes
Cosmetic Beginning from the "A Festival of Friendship" update (Update 3) onwards, players can spend Moonstones on a selection of premium cosmetic items. Additionally, all Star Paths (the game's equivalent of a "Battle Pass") unlock exclusive cosmetic items, including clothes, furniture, motifs, special critters for the player's companion, and Dream Styles for certain villagers to wear, as well as more Moonstones provided the player earns event tokens through completing special duties in the Valley. However, only a small number of Star Path rewards can be unlocked for free, and only up to three Star Path duties can be done at a time; players must spend Moonstones to try to unlock more items and do up to six duties to earn event tokens quicker. Event tokens can also be bought with Moonstones if players feel that they will not be able to complete all the duties in time to earn all the rewards.
Currency Moonstones are the game's premium currency. During early access, players can buy a Founder's Pack that comes with Moonstones, with the Deluxe Edition offering more than the standard edition, and Ultimate Edition offering more than both Deluxe and Standard. Any Moonstones purchased in a version of the game can be used on only the platform it was bought on (e.g. Moonstones bought on Steam cannot be used on the Epic Games Store version), although Moonstones earned for free can be used between all versions except the PlayStation versions.
Infinite spend There does not seem to be any limit to how many Moonstones can be bought.
Time-limited Items in the Item Shop are only available for a limited time and rotate every few days. Rewards in the Star Path are only available while the Star Path is active; any items that have not been redeemed during that time will no longer be available. Founder's Pack-exclusive items are only available during early access and won't be available to purchase when the game fully releases.
Gameloft has stated that they do not intend to monetize core gameplay mechanics, including payments to improve or speed up gameplay.[1]
At the game's early access launch, players could earn only ten Moonstones from blue chests each day; this was increased to fifty Moonstones in the February 2023 "A Festival of Friendship" update.

  1. Will there be any paywalls, micro-transactions, real-time timers or energy systems that I can spend real money on to accelerate? - last accessed on 2023-02-21
"Disney Dreamlight Valley will not monetize any core gameplay mechanics. There are no paywalls and no “pay-to-win” mechanics. For example, you will not be able to pay to make your garden grow faster, increase or refresh your energy, increase your character friendship level, etc."
