Fantasy WR Rankings Week 5: Who to start, sit at wide receiver in fantasy football | Sporting News (2024)

As we head into Week 5, some fantasy football owners feel as if they have a well-rounded roster that's capable of making noise in the fantasy playoffs. Others might feel the season's already over. Regardless of your current outlook, you can't quit, and our Week 5 fantasy WR rankings for standard leagues are here to help you find potential sleepers and busts at fantasy's deepest position.

Despite not leading his team in fantasy points at the WR position, Ja'Marr Chase headlines our Week 5 rankings against a Ravens defense that hasn't been as stout as seasons past. Outside of Chase sitting at No. 1, they're aren't too many surprises for those sure-fire starters. This week, the most notable changes might be in regards to some of the bigger-named WRs whose rankings have taken slight hits, mostly because of matchups. That group includes Deebo Samuel (@ Panthers in Week 5), Drake London (@ Buccaneers), and Michael Pittman Jr. (@ Broncos). You might also be worried about Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle (@ Jets) playing with Teddy Bridgewater, but both receivers are such YAC monsters that they should be fine in this matchup.

While those guys are likely still in your starting lineups, it's worth knowing there's a chance they don't produce at the level they usually do given their matchups. Some other usual starters who see their rankings take a hit based on tougher matchups include Jerry Jeudy (vs. Colts), Rashod Bateman (vs. Bengals), Tyler Lockett (@ Saints), D.J. Moore (vs. 49ers), Adam Thielen (vs. Bears), Brandon Aiyuk (@ Panthers), and Allen Robinson (vs. Cowboys). Most of these guys will still be started in deeper leagues, but for those in shallower leagues, they might be the odd men out. Ditto for deeper pulls like Romeo Doubs and Allen Lazard (vs. Giants) and Josh Reynolds (@ Patriots).

WEEK 5 STANDARD RANKINGS:
QBs | RBs | TEs | D/STs | Kickers

Perhaps more worrisome were the disappearing acts pulled by Gabriel Davis (vs. Steelers), DeVonta Smith (@ Cardinals), Diontae Johnson (@ Bills), and Terry McLaurin (@ Titans) in Week 4. We're not overly concerned about any yet, but Davis' nagging ankle injury and insufficient QB play for McLaurin and Johnson have caused issues. We're hoping Johnson takes off with Kenny Pickett now under center, but he'll have a tough matchup this week.

WEEK 5 PPR RANKINGS:
QBs | RBs | WRs | TEs | D/STs | Kickers

Keenan Allen (hamstring), Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle), Jakobi Meyers (knee), Zay Jones (ankle), and Michael Thomas (toe) were some of the big-named pass-catchers to miss Week 4 but are still included in our Week 5 rankings. If any are out, it opens the door for sleepers like Josh Palmer (@ Browns), Reynolds (@ Patriots), DeVante Parker (vs. Lions), and Jamal Agnew (vs. Texans), among others. Parker and Palmer would be especially interesting given their matchups, but none are sure things.

WEEK 5 DFS LINEUPS: FanDuel | DraftKings

More bubble WRs with favorable matchups include Garrett Wilson, Elijah Moore, and Corey Davis (vs. Dolphins), Tyler Boyd (@ Ravens), Michael Gallup and Noah Brown (@ Rams), Robert Woods (@ Commanders), Julio Jones and Russell Gage (vs. Falcons), and Isaiah McKenzie (vs. Steelers). While most aren't the top options in their teams' respective passing games (except for one of the Jets and Woods now that Treylon Burks is hurt), these auxiliary pass-catchers have the chance to post solid fantasy performances this week.

Fantasy WR Rankings Week 5: Who to start, sit at wide receiver in fantasy football | Sporting News (2024)

FAQs

Who is the number one WR in fantasy football? ›

1. Marvin Harrison Jr., WR, Cardinals. What can be said about Harrison that you don't already know? He's tall, athletic, fast, nuanced, experienced, and as NFL-ready as any receiver has ever been.

When should I draft a WR in fantasy football? ›

Most managers should draft a WR with their first pick this season in fantasy football. Six of the top 12 players in our fantasy football rankings are WRs, 5 are RBs, and a single TE slipped into the top 12. But your draft position determines the best player available when it is your turn to select.

Should you have more RB or WR in fantasy? ›

You have about a 12% chance of hitting big with each RB25 to RB35 you pick. So, a good plan for your first seven rounds is (1) Kelce, three WRs, three RBs. Or (2) four WRs then three RBs.

What is the best position order to draft in fantasy football? ›

Ultimately, the best position to draft first in fantasy football 2023 depends on your league settings and the players available. However, if you are looking for the best possible chance of winning your league, you should consider drafting a running back or a wide receiver with your first pick.

Should WR or RB come first in PPR? ›

The most common strategy for fantasy players is to target the elite running backs at the top of the draft. This is mainly because of how deep the wide receiver position is, making it more reasonable to find superstars in the middle rounds.

What is the no WR draft strategy? ›

Zero WR is the same strategy, except flip the running back and wide receiver roles. Zero WR is one of the many derivative strategies from Shawn Siegle's original 2013 Zero RB strategy. The goal of Zero WR is to dominate fantasy football's most important position and backfill wide receivers later in your draft.

Who should I start, Jerry Jeudy or Odell Beckham Jr.? ›

Still trying to decide between Beckham Jr and Jeudy? Check on the latest news to make sure both players are active and healthy. Our PPR projections show that Odell Beckham Jr is projected to score 8.5 points this week while Jerry Jeudy is projected to score 0.0 points.

Should you put a WR or RB at Flex? ›

In non-PPR leagues, you probably want to start as many running backs as you can. In full-PPR leagues, you should look to focus on wide receivers. In half-PPR leagues, I lean toward running backs, but strong wide receivers are still very viable. Ultimately, there is no objectively correct decision.

Should you pair QB and WR in fantasy? ›

When playing daily fantasy football, you can increase upside by pairing your quarterback with one of his receivers. If the quarterback has a big day, which is pretty much a prerequisite for taking down a tourney, it's highly likely that your pass-catcher will produce as well.

What's more valuable in PPR, RB or WR? ›

When you get to the level of PPR performance where one player basically wins you the week, 30+ points, a WR is almost twice as likely to do it than a RB. No need to go further with this. It's always going to be true that WRs are more explosive than RBs in PPR.
