If you don't mind a strong banana taste they are great. I think that I would prefer to use something else because the banana over powers the chocolate.

These were delicious!! So easy and a great way to use up the bananas aging on the counter. Definitely will be a go-to on Sundays for the week.

Made these today as I should avoid regular sugar - I used 85%-chocolate, they turned out great! Thank you! :)

First time I didn't like a PUL recipe :( I scaled down the ingredients but something seemed to be very off since the mixture stayed extremely humid and it was nearly impossible to actually form cookies out of it although I followed the measurements 1:1. Added a bit more oats and some flour which still didn't solve the problem. Texture was very awkward and gum like.

One-Bowl Nut Butter & Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies (18)PUL Team - Feb. 4, 2024, 7:27 p.m.

Hey Anna, we're sad that the cookies didn't turn out as expected! Sometimes adjustments like varying the banana size or the brand of oats can affect the texture. Scaling can also be a little tricky with baked goods such as cookies.

If you give the recipe another try it may be worth trying to ensure that the bananas are ripe but not overly so, gently mixing the ingredients until just combined, and baking the cookies until they are golden and firm to the touch can help prevent a gummy texture 🙂

Hey! Quick question. I can’t stand coconut. It makes my throat swell up.
So to replace them, I was wondering (beside taste) what function they serve? Could they be replaced by a flour, as in, are they used to ‘thicken’ the dough? Or could they just be left out?

One-Bowl Nut Butter & Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies (19)PUL Team - Jan. 31, 2024, 7:15 a.m.

Hey Ellie, the coconut adds texture and flavour to the cookies but can be omitted without impacting the cookies too much. You can replace it with an equal amount of another ingredient for texture, like chopped nuts, while adjusting the sweetness to taste 😊

Ellie - Jan. 31, 2024, 10:07 a.m.

Thank you! Will do.

Hey Janneke, sorry to hear you didn't love these. Since the cookies don't have flour, they do tend to be a bit different than traditional cookies. Might we suggest our Almond Brownie Cookies for a more traditional cookie texture and flavour: https://www.pickuplimes.com/r… They're out highest rated cookie recipe ☺️

These are delicious breakfast cookies that turn into all the time cookies. They are cost effective as well. The original recipe didn’t have you chop up the dried craisins and I think it tastes better when you leave them whole mixed into the cookies.

We recently rediscovered these and are planning to make them a staple for our family! We use sunflower butter (allergies) and it is so good!

We left these in the container on the counter overnight and just realized this says to keep them in the refrigerator. Is the fridge a must?

One-Bowl Nut Butter & Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies (27)PUL Team - Sept. 4, 2023, 4:14 p.m.

Hey Natalie! Sunflower seed butter is a lovely idea. While refrigerating the cookies is recommended to maintain freshness, it's not an absolute must for a short duration, especially if you're not in an overly warm climate. If you're planning to store them for longer or are in a warm climate, switching to the fridge can help prolong their shelf life 😊

Why do you use quick oats instead of rolled oats?

Thanks,

One-Bowl Nut Butter & Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies (29)PUL Team - May 18, 2023, 5:51 p.m.

Hey Kangying, the quick oats give the cookies a softer texture and faster cooking time. They blend into the dough more during baking which results in a chewier cookie 🙂

One-Bowl Nut Butter & Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies (31)PUL Team - April 17, 2023, 11:21 p.m.

Hey Anishka, we're not confident that swapping the banana will work successfully with these cookies. One idea that comes to mind is applesauce, such as 1/2 cup of applesauce to replace 1 mashed banana. Although for this recipe, we believe the cookies may turn out too wet if applesauce is used.

For cookies without bananas, we'd suggest our Cowboy Cookies (pickuplimes.com/recipe/one-bo…) or Blueberry Almond Breakfast Cookies (https://www.pickuplimes.com/r…) instead. Do let us know if you give any of the recipes a try 🤗

Delicious cookies that are suitable for fika with tea and a fruit! I’m happy that you’ve develop so easy recipes for sweet snacks, which aren’t too bad for type 1 diabetics. These cookies hold together so well whilst being moist, and the pockets of chocolate are fun😋. For me, the only drawback is that the banana flavour became surprisingly strong. I can’t recall that I’ve had this issue before🤔. Lastly, a question: how flat do you make these cookies? I wasn’t sure if these cookies should be really moist or have a biscuit-like crunch

One-Bowl Nut Butter & Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies (59)PUL Team - Aug. 28, 2021, 5:26 p.m.

Hi Louise, thank you for the lovely review and questions! We appreciate it so much.

For the banana flavour, we suspect it may have to do with using larger bananas or more ripe bananas as these tend to be sweeter than less ripe bananas. Trying with banana's that are around 7 inches long and just a tad bit spotty may be helpful if you give the recipe another try 😊

Texture-wise, you're welcome to make the cookies either way. We find that the flatter (such as 1-1.5 cm thick) biscuit-like crunch is a fun way to enjoy these ones though 😃

Louise Magnusson🇸🇪 - Aug. 30, 2021, 9:31 p.m.

Thank you for the feedback 🙏🏻! It’s certainly important to take the bananas when they're just turning spotty. I’ll try to be more observant next time👍🏼. However, I’ve grown fond of the batch that I’m currently storing in my freezer. The nut butter suits very well with, almost conceals, the banana flavour.

I’ll definitely try a more biscuit-like cookie next time based on your review😄

Hej Sadia, these look so delicious! Do you have any ideas how to swap out the banana? I would love to try these and the almond blueberry cookies, too, but my daughter can‘t stand banana..

One-Bowl Nut Butter & Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies (60)PUL Team - Aug. 28, 2021, 4:26 p.m.

Hey Lena, great question! With this particular recipe, the banana is quite a prominent ingredient and so swapping it out I'm afraid might not work. The only thing that comes to mind is using applesauce, usually 1/2 cup of applesauce to replace 1 mashed banana. For this recipe, though, I fear it might result in cookies that will be too wet. Might I suggest our Cowboy Cookie recipe instead (https://www.pickuplimes.com/r…) or perhaps our Blueberry Almond Breakfast Cookies (https://www.pickuplimes.com/r…) - in this recipe, I think the banana could be swapped out for applesauce safely. I hope this helps!

Thank you for your answer! I‘ll give it a try and will report back 🤗

These are great as a snack or a little dessert if you don't want to feel too heavy after a meal. Or heck, have several if that's what you want! I've done that! They are so simple because of the few ingredients, I love these. I go back to this recipe a couple of times a year actually lol, sometimes the cravings kick in and these cookies leave me feeling satiated and nourished every time

Could I use applesauce instead of the banana?

Hi Bradley, that's a great question. We can't say with certainty as we've never tested it out, although we imagine it may be possible! The cookies might not stick as well together though. If you experiment with it, do let us know how it goes 😃

This is my absolute favorite cookie recipe. As someone who needs their baked goods to be gluten free, this came as an absolute gift of moisture and gooeyness otherwise unknown in my vegan gf world. I make these when I’m sad and want cookies, I make them when I need a reward, and sometimes even make them for a quick breakfast-y snack because there’s not even any added sugar besides the chocolate chips! My husband and nanny kids who are not vegan also love these. Toasting the coconut is also an important step I don’t recommend skipping!

These cookies have been in my rotation for a few years. They are so easy and my kids love them! It is so easy to swap ingredients too. I've used a variety of different dried fruits, a couple different nut butters. Sometimes I use chocolate chips, sometimes I don't, they're still delicious!

My tip for shaping them: I use a small ice cream scoop and then press them down with a fork

Hey, thank you Saadia for all you share :)
I made the recipe and unfortunaltely I found the cookies too dense.

One-Bowl Nut Butter & Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies (68)PUL Team - June 17, 2021, 3:35 p.m.

Hi Louisa, thank you for the honest review! It's super appreciated to help us improve. Since the cookies don't have flour, they do tend to be a bit chewier and denser than traditional cookies. Using a super ripe banana can sometimes help to introduce some more moisture when compared to a less ripe banana, so this might help a bit too. In case you might be interested, we've got a recipe for chocolate chip cookies that are naturally softer if you haven't seen the recipe already. Thanks again for the feedback✨

Can I use tahini instead of peanut butter? I'm allergic to it.

One-Bowl Nut Butter & Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies (69)PUL Team - June 5, 2021, 9:19 p.m.

Hello Sue, great question! Feel free to use any other nut or seed butter in place of the peanut butter, such as cashew, almond or sunflower seed butter. Tahini would also work but you may find it gives a bit of a bitter taste to the cookies since tahini tends to be more savoury than other nut and seeds butters 🤗

Can you use your air fryer instead of your oven?

One-Bowl Nut Butter & Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies (70)PUL Team - May 20, 2021, 6:20 p.m.

Really interesting question, Meklit! We imagine it could work, although it might take some experimenting to find the right temperature and time. Trying between 300-325°F and checking on the cookies after a few minutes is one idea. Do let us know if you give it a try 😃

Easy to make, quite sticky when you form the cookies. But the taste is very good and I like that there is no additional sugar despite the chocolate. Next time I will take cacoa nibs, I like the crunch and it's without sugar then.
