3. How do I bail out someone out?

People can post bail in person by going either to the Washoe County Jail cashier or to the courthouse where the case is being handled. To post bail, the person will need to provide the following information:

• court of jurisdiction,
• the bail amount,
• the name of the inmate,
• the inmate’s birth date, and
• the inmate’s booking number.

Bail can be paid by:

• U.S. cash,
• U.S. certified or cashier’s checks made payable to the court hearing the case,
• Postal money orders (as long as the money amount is typed or stamped) made payable to the court hearing the case,

4. Can I call an inmate?

People outside of the Washoe County Detention Facility maynot place calls to the inmates. (Some selected inmates may receive voicemails.) Instead, inmates have specified times during the day when they are allowed to make outgoing calls. They can place collect calls or use phone cards bought from the commissary.

People may visit inmates at the Washoe County Jail either remotely over the web or through video visitation at the facility:

Visitors are required to schedule an on-site video visit at least 24 hours in advance. Visiting hours are 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Video kiosks are in the jail lobby.

People incarcerated at the Washoe County Detention Facility must fill out a property release form approving an outside person to receive his/her property or vehicle. The inmate may request this form, or an outside person may call 775-328-2951 to request that a form be given to the inmate.

People have three options to transfer funds to an inmate’s books at the Reno Jail:
