Why didn't Steve Jobs' children receive an inheritance after his death? (2024)

Thursday, October 5, marks 12 years since the death of one of the 'geniuses' of technology in recent decades, Steve Jobs.

The founder of Apple, one of the most successful brands in technological devices and father of the iPhone as we know it, passed away on October 5, 2011 due to pancreatic cancer from which he was never cured.

Jobs left an indelible mark that still lasts thanks to his genius, his vision of the future and his philanthropy, marked by an affable character that won the affection of so many people.

Jobs was married to his wife Laurene and together they had three children: Reed Paul, Eve and Erin Sienna.

However, none of them received a large amount of the enormous fortune of the entrepreneur, why?

The inheritance went to two people

The tycoon was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2004 and five years later he underwent a liver transplant operation, but it was too late and his health was too weak.

The tumor became a metastasis from which he could not recover, until the fateful day, October 5, 2011.

However, his work within technology granted him a great fortune worth a total of $10.2 billion at the time, which responded, in large part, to the $5.5 million in Apple shares and $138 million in Disney shares, as he owned 7% of the company.

Despite that, none of his three children received an inheritance as such.

Only two people received inheritance after Steve Jobs' death, his wife Laurene and Lisa Brennan.

Brennan was his first daughter, the fruit of a previous relationship, but she did not recognize him as her father until after many years.

To 'compensate', somehow, all the rejection and a lack of financial and emotional support, it was decided that the inheritance would go directly to these two people.

The reasons for distributing the inheritance in this way

According to Laurene, in an interview with the New York Times, the inheritance went to charitable causes through the Waverley Street Foundation and the Emerson Collective.

In addition, another reason why Steve Jobs' three children with Laurene did not receive an inheritance was because of the type of education they were given, since all three are successful professionals in their field and do not 'need' that money.
