Can you sunbathe in Cyprus in March?
During the winter months from November to March, you can expect mild weather and sunny skies. This makes it a great option if you want to soak up the sun or explore the island's excellent historical attractions.
In March temperatures are at an average of 14°C, but you could well get some nice warm days of around 19°C too. It's a pleasant month to visit as the tourist crowds have not yet arrived, but you're likely to still find it warmer and sunnier than back home.
Air and sea temperature in Cyprus in March
The end of March will bring bronze tan, and you can enjoy the sun without the fear of getting sunburnt. The daytime temperature rarely rises above +23°С — 24°C (average around +16°С — +19°C), and the night is still quite cool (about +7°С — + 9°C).
March is the first month when you can really feel the tourist season picking up. All the hotels and restaurants that have been closed since November begin to open again and the deserted tourist resorts, like Coral Bay or Ayia Napa, start to show signs of life.
What clothes to wear in March. You will need summer clothes for the day and light winter clothes for the night. At day time you will probably wear shorts, t-shirt, swimming suit etc. You should also have a sweater and a pair of pants for the night or in case the weather turns a bit cooler than normal.
The best time to visit Cyprus is the spring which often arrives as early as Feb. Weather is still favourable in Mar-Apr with wild flowers, including over 40 species of orchid, popping up across the ridge of the Besparmak Mountains and the hillsides towards the Akamas headland.
While many Mediterranean destinations are still struggling to throw off winter, the coastal resorts of Cyprus are enjoying average temperatures of around 19ºC and seven – yes, seven – hours of daily sunshine. The warmest resort in March is Limassol at 20ºC, though some days will be decidedly warmer.
It's pretty mild at this time of year, but it's a good idea to bring along a jumper or light jacket for the evenings. The average daily maximum is 21 C and the average daily minimum is 10 C.
Average maximum temperature reaches about 19°C-20°C on the plains and 10°C on the mountain ranges. Average minimum temperature varies from 9°C-10°C in the coastal areas and 7°C inland to 3°C on the mountains. Like in winter months, there is a small risk of hail, and frost is possible inland.
Avoid sun exposure between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The sun's rays are strongest during these hours, so try to schedule outdoor activities for other times. If you can't do that, limit the length of time you're in the sun. Seek shade when possible.
What time do people eat dinner in Cyprus?
Breakfast is usually served between 07:00 and 10:00, lunch is served in restaurants between 12:00 and 15:00, and dinner is served from 19:00 till late in the evening. The days listed below are Public Holidays in Cyprus.
- Paphos.
- Coral Bay.
- Ayia Napa.
- Limassol.
- Protaras.
- Pernera.
- Nicosia.
- Larnaca.
Paphos is known to have the best of Cyprus' weather. The average high in Paphos is 19ºC in March, which is perfectly warm enough for you to relax on the beach, so remember your sun cream. You should bring some warmer clothes for the evenings though, as things cool to 9ºC at night.
Clothing to Pack for Cyprus
Shorts, lightweight dresses, sandals, etc. Oh and don't forget your swimwear! For Cyprus, – Jeans and comfy shoes. Make sure you have a rain jacket and warm layers if you travel there in the winter as it can get chilly.
It's a coverup, a towel, a dress, a skirt! Sunglasses, a good pair that filters out all harmful UVA and UVB rays. Mask, Snorkel and Travel fins (yes, I'm a diver – and i guess you are too as you're reading this blog on the PADI site!) Kindle – holidays aren't the same without a good book!
Dress codes in churches, monasteries and mosques are strictly enforced – long trousers and no bare chests for men, covered legs and shoulders for women (and also in mosques, covered heads for women and shoes off for all).
Yes, Cyprus is generally considered safe for female travellers, including those travelling on their own. Crime rates are low but personal attacks, including sexual assault, do happen. The UK Foreign Office says that drug-assisted rape is a risk in Cyprus, and includes the use of drugs such as GHB and liquid ecstasy.
Almost everyday is sunny with temperature during daytime between 18 and 32 °C. The weather in April is ideal both for sunbathing as well as for sightseeing and sports. It might rain but not as much as in winter or March.
So is Cyprus expensive to visit? Well, it doesn't have to be. Prices in Cyprus are more or less on par with other mid-range European destinations — like Croatia or Spain — which means it can be incredibly affordable and that it is entirely possible to visit the country on a budget.
The heat is softened by the sea breeze. Cyprus is hot in August at about 30ºC – 35ºC and the sea at about 28ºC. In Greece, the thermometer often passes the thirty plus mark in summer as well, but in general there is less heat than in Cyprus, especially in the northern part of the country.
Where in Europe is hot in March?
If you want warm weather in March, head to Southern European destinations like the southern coasts of Spain, Portugal, Greece and Turkey. Spring starts early in these countries (and in some locations, winter never really sets in), so you'll typically find much milder temperatures than elsewhere on the continent.
At this time of year, the average temperature in Larnaca is 14ºC, with highs reaching 19ºC in the peak of the afternoon. Temperatures drop to just 8ºC at night, so you'll need to bring plenty of layers for evenings out at the local bars and restaurants.
Summer activities on the beach are also good in February. Sun is still hot and water is warm so you can keep sunbathing and swimming.
The lowest mean annual precipitation for Cyprus was 213 mm in 1972-73 and the highest was 800 mm in 1968-69. The mean annual precipitation for the period 1961-90 is 503 mm. The wettest months are normally December, January and February and the driest are July, August and September.
January is the coldest month in Cyprus. The temperature falls to 0°C at night in the Troodos Mountains and in +5°C at night in the central region. The ski season opens in winter. At this time, snow falls in the Troodos Mountains encouraging people go skiing and snowboarding.
