Which ruler is considered as the greatest Mughal Emperor?
The firm establishment of Mughal rule in India was really the work of his grandson, Akbar (1556-1605), arguably the greatest of the Mughal emperors. Under Akbar the empire became one of the wealthiest states of Eurasia.

The Mughal Empire was founded by Babur (reigned 1526–1530), a Central Asian ruler who was descended from the Turco-Mongol conqueror Timur (the founder of the Timurid Empire) on his father's side, and from Genghis Khan on his mother's side.
Aurangzeb, often described as the "last effective Mughal emperor" ruled India for nearly 50 years from 1658 to 1707 - but he was never a favourite in the eyes of historians. For a start - he came to the throne after imprisoning his father and having his older brother killed.

Jahangir built on his father's foundations of excellent administration, and his reign was characterized by political stability, a strong economy and impressive cultural achievments.
Jahangir was trying to restore his health by visiting Kashmir and Kabul. He went from Kabul to Kashmir but decided to return to Lahore because of a severe cold. On the journey from Kashmir to Lahore, Jahangir died near Bhimber on October 29, 1627.
However, based on historical accounts and the achievements of various Mughal emperors, one can argue that Emperor Akbar the Great was perhaps the strongest Mughal emperor of all.

Aurangzeb (1658–1707)
Aurangzeb captured Agra and hastily got his coronation done on 31 July 1658 with the title of Alamgir. After being successful in the battle of Devrai, he got his coronation done again on 5 June 1659, thus Aurangzeb was the first and last Mughal emperor to be coronated twice.
One would justifiably presume that a king such as Ashoka, who idealised compassion not conflict (albeit after his Kalinga war) and humane values rather than authoritarianism, would be a celebrated figure in the history of India.
