Lines and Stations of the New York City Subway

The United States of America is home to the largest number of metro systems in the world with thirty two systems.

Eleven of the country's systems are classified as subways or underground systems.

Metro systems can be found in twenty five of America's fifty states.

The state of California has the highest number with five networks.

The country's largest metro system is the New York City Subway which has a system length of 337 kilometers / 209 miles.

The country's oldest metro system is the city of Chicago's L Train which began operation in 1892.

Only four city metro systems in the world provide a twenty four hour service and all of them are located in the U.S.A, they are located in the cities of Chicago, Jersey, New York and Philadelphia.

ATLANTA

Atlanta, Georgia.

The city of Atlanta has a 44 mile rapid transit system known as the MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority) which became operational in 1979. The system consists of four lines which are served by thirty eight stations.

The MARTA operates on weekdays between 04.45 hours and 01.00 hours and at the weekends between 06.00 hours and 01.00 hours.

MARTA

Red Line - 19 stations between North Springs and Hartsfield Jackson International Airport.

Yellow Line - 18 Stations between Doraville and Hartsfield Jackson International Airport.

Blue Line - 15 Stations between Hamilton E. Holmes and Indian Creek.

Green Line - 9 stations between Bankwood and Edgewood / Candler Park.

The above four lines all connect at Atlanta's Five Points Railway Station located along the city's Broad Street.

ATLANTA'S BOTANICAL GARDEN

AIR

Atlanta is served by the Hartsfield Jackson International Airport. The airport is served by two Plane Trains, one which links the airport's domestic and international terminals with it's seven concourses and another which links the passenger terminals with the car rental centre.

The airport is also served by it's own metro station, located near the baggage reclaim in the arrivals hall, which departs the airport regularly between 04.45 hours and 01.00 hours on weekdays and between 06.00 hours and 01.00 hours at the weekends.

The airport station is served by trains on the MARTA's Red Line and Yellow Line, both of which connect at Atlanta's Five Points Railway Station, which is further served by the MARTA's Blue Line and Green Line.

RAIL

Atlanta is served by the Peachtree Railway Station located along the city's Peachtree Street. The station is served by

the Yellow Line and the Red Line of the MARTA and the Amtrak Crescent service which travels between New York City and New Orleans in Louisiana.

BUS

Atlanta's inter city (Greyhound) bus station is located along the city's Forsyth Street SW. The station is located within walking distance of Garnet Station located on the Red Line and the Yellow Line of the Marta.

SPORT

Atlanta is served by three renowned sporting venues.

The Philip's Arena - Home of the Atlanta Hawks basket ball team, which can be accessed by way of the Dome / GWCC / Philips Arena / CNN Centre Station located on the Blue Line and the Green Line.

Turner Field - Home of the Atlanta Braves baseball team, which can be accessed by way of a short walk from Georgia State Station located on the Blue Line and the Green Line of the MARTA.

Regular shuttle buses to Turner Field are also provided from the Underground Atlanta Centre.

East Lake Golf Course - Home of the annual PGA Tour championship is located at 2572, Alston Drive SE, Atlanta, Georgia, 30317. The course is best accessed by taxi or private car.

BALTIMORE

Baltimore, Maryland

The city of Baltimore has a 24.8 kilometer rapid transit system known as the Subway, although only 50% of it is actually underground, which became operational in 1983. The system consists of one line which is served by fourteen stations.

The system operates between 05.00 hours and 00.00 hours on Mondays to Fridays and from 06.00 hours and 00.00 hours at the weekends.

Baltimore is also served by a light rail, commuter service with three services which are known as the MTA - the Maryland Transit Authority, the company which also operates the city's extensive bus network.

The MTA Blue Line - 31 stations between Hunt Valley and Baltimore Washington International Airport, via Penn Railway Station and Lexington Market, which is the station for connecting with the metro.

The MTA Yellow Line - 25 stations between Hunt Valley and Cromwell Station / Glen Burnie.

INTERSTATE COMMUTER RAIL

Baltimore is also served by the MARC, the Maryland Area Regional Commuter service, an interstate, commuter rail service with three lines which links the state of Maryland with the city of Washington DC and the state of West Virginia.

BALTIMORE'S CITY HALL

AIR

Baltimore is served by the Washington Marshall International Airport. The airport is served by a train station on the MTA Blue Line which connects with the Subway at Lexington Market. The airport station can be found adjacent to concourse E.

The airport train runs a regular service between 05.00 hours and 23.00 hours on Mondays to Fridays, between 06.00 hours and 23.00 hours on Saturdays and from 11.00 hours to 19.00 hours on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

RAIL

Baltimore is served by the Pennsylvania Railway Station, more commonly known as Penn Station, which is located along the city's North Charles Street. This iconic city landmark is served by a large local bus station, the city's MTA Red Line, the Penn Line commuter service, the Pennsylvania Railroad and nine inter city Amtrak services. These nine Amtrak services are;

The Acela Express service which travels between Boston, Massachusetts and Washington D.C.

BUS

Baltimore's inter city (Greyhound) bus station is located along the city's Haines Street. The station is best accessed by either local bus # 27 or a local taxi.

SPORT

Baltimore's major league baseball team is the Baltimore Orioles. They play their home games at the Oriole Park at Camden Yards. The stadium is accessed by the Camden Yards Station which can be accessed on all of the MTA lines.

Baltimore's main sporting and music venue is the Baltimore Arena located on West Baltimore Street. The arena can be accessed by the Charles Center Subway station or the University Center / Baltimore Street Station which can be found on all of the MTA lines.

BOSTON

Boston, Massachusetts

The historical city of Boston is served by both a rapid transit underground and a light rail commuter service.

The city's subway, which became operational in 1901, is sixty one kilometers long and consists of three lines which are served by fifty one stations.

The city's light rail commuter service which became operational in 1897, is forty two kilometers long and has five lines which are served by seventy four stations.

The city is also served by four trolley bus lines, four commuter ferry services, a rapid transit, light rail line and a rapid transit tram line and eleven commuter rail lines, all of which are operated by the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, otherwise known as the MRTA.

The Red Line - 17 stations between Alewife and Ashmont. Subway

AIR

Boston is served by the Logan International Airport. The airport is served by both bus and rail services for connections into downtown Boston, both of which start with a bus journey.

From any of the the airport terminals take the Silver Line bus to Airport Railway Station.

The Airport Station is served by the metro system's Blue Line, which travels between Bowdoin (south bound) and Wonderland (north bound), via State Station to connect with the Orange Line or Government Center Station to connect with the B Line of the Green Line.

Alternatively stay on the bus and travel on to South Station bus and rail terminal for connections to the Red Line, commuter rail services or intercity buses, or go on to Boylston Station to connect with all lines of the Green Line.

For a more scenic journey into downtown Boston passengers can take a water shuttle from the airport's Logan Dock by catching Massport bus # 66 from any of the airport terminals. From Logan Dock the water shuttle travels along the South Shore of Boston Waterfront calling at Boston Inner Harbour, Quincy and Hull.

For connections to the Boston suburbs of Braintree, Framingham, Woburn or Peabody, there is a non stop shuttle bus service, the Massport Logan Express, which departs daily from all of the airport's terminals between 06.30 hours and 20.00 hours.

TRAIN & BUS

Boston's iconic South Station, pictured above, or to give it it's official title the Governor Micheal.S.Dukakis Transportation Centre, is a vast rail and bus terminal located along the city's Atlantic Avenue.

The station is served by the city subway's Red Line, the Silver Line bus network, seven commuter rail services, the weekend only Cape Flyer service to Cape Cod and the following three Amtrak services .

The Lake Shore Limited service which travels between Boston and Chicago in Illinois.

The Northeast Regional service which travels between Boston and Lynchburg, Newport News, Norfolk and Richmond in Virginia.

Boston is also served by the North Railway Station located along the city's Causeway and Nashua Street. This station provides the Fitchburg, Lowell, Haverhill and Newburyport / Rockport commuter rail services, the Green Line's C Line and D Line, the Orange Line of the city subway and Amtrak's Downeaster service which travels between Boston and Brunswick in Maine.

FERRIES

SPORT

Boston's major sporting and concert venue is Fenway Park, better known as the home of the Boston Red Sox baseball team. The stadium can be accessed by way of the Fenway Station located on the D Line of the Green Line light rail service.

BUFFALO

Buffalo, New York

The city of Buffalo has a 10.3 kilometer rapid transit system known as the Metro Rail, which became operational in 1985. The system consists of one line which is served by fourteen stations, eight of which are underground and charge a fee and six of which are elevated which are non fare paying.

AIR

Buffalo is served by the Buffalo - Niagara International Airport. There are several bus services available for transfers into downtown Buffalo, including the NFTA Metro Bus Downtown Express, #204, which leaves from outside the arrivals hall, every hour on weekdays between 06.23 hours and 17.19 hours. The bus terminates at North Division / Ellicott Street Metropolititan Transportation Center, right in the centre of down town, a journey time of around thirty five minutes.

To access the American side of Niagara Falls there are also several bus services for transfers from the airport, including the NFTA Metro Bus # 210, which leaves from outside the arrivals hall every two hours on weekdays during May to October, and provides a journey of around 45 minutes.

RAIL

Buffalo's central railway station is located along the city's Exchange Street. The station is served by two Amtrak services, the Empire service, which links New York City with Niagara Falls, and the Maple Leaf service, which links New York City with the city of Toronto in Canada.

The station is not served by the Metro Rail but is located just a short walk away from either the Seneca or Erie Canal Metro Rail stations.

BUS

The Buffalo Metropolitan Transportation Center is located along the city's Ellicott Street.

The station is served by local and interstate (Greyhound) bus services including the Neon Bus service which links the Buffalo Niagara Airport with Syracruse and New York City in New York state. The station is not served by the Metro Rail.

LOCAL ATTRACTIONS

Buffalo's Harbour Center, Naval Park, Niagara Center and One Canalside can all be accessed by way of the Erie Canal Station on the Metro Rail.

Buffalo is served by several sporting and events venues the two most popular of which are;

The First Niagara Center, home of the Buffalo Sabres hockey team, which is located along the city's Seymour Knox Palza. The stadium is served by it's own Metro Rail station on match days known as the Special Events Station.

The Ralph Wilson Stadium is located at Orchard Park and is home to the Buffalo Bills American football team. The stadium is located out of town and is therefore best accessed by way of a local taxi or private car.

CHARLOTTE

Charlotte, North Carolina

The city of Charlotte has a 15.45 kilometer light rail system, known as the Lynx, which became operational in 2007. The system consists of one line which is served by fifteen stations.

Charlotte is served by the Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The airport is served by the CATS Sprinter bus service for transfers into downtown Charlotte, which depart from outside the airport's Zone D baggage reclaim.

On Mondays to Fridays the buses depart every twenty minutes between 05.50 hours and 19.00 hours and every thirty minutes between 19.00 hours and 00.00 hours. On Saturdays and Sundays the buses depart every hour between 06.00 hours and 01.00 hours. All services terminate at the Charlotte Transportation Center, a journey time of around twenty minutes. The Charlotte Transportation Center is served by a station on the Lynx.

RAIL

Charlotte's central railway station is located along the city's North Tryon Street. The stations is served by three Amtrak rail services, the Crescent, which links New York City with New Orleans, the Carolinian service, which links Charlotte with New York City and the Piedmont service which links Charlotte with North Carolina's state's capital Raleigh.

The station is not served by the Lynx.

BUS

Charlotte's local and long distance bus terminal is located at the Charlotte Area Transportation System located along the city's East Trade Street. This major transportation hub is served by a station on the Lynx.

SPORT

Charlotte's is served by two premier sports and events venues, they are;

The Bank of America Stadium, home of the Carolina Panthers American football team, located along the city's South Mint Avenue. The stadium is not served by the Lynx but it's Convention Centre Station is very near. Alternatively disabled visitors can take advantage of a game day shuttle from Lot B of the Carolinas Medical Centre located along the city's Blythe Boulevard.

The Time Warner Cable Arena is located along the city's East Trade Street and is the home of the Charlotte Hornets basketball team. The arena is served by the Trade Street Station on the Lynx.

CHICAGO

Chicago, Illinois

The city of Chicago has a 224.1 kilometer elevated and underground rapid transit system known as the 'L' (short for elevated), which became operational in 1892, making it the oldest metro system in the United States.

The L, which is operated by the Chicago Transit Authority - CTA - consists of eight lines which are served by one hundred and forty four stations and is one of only four metro systems in the world which run a twenty four hour service, but only on two of it's lines.

The city is also served by twelve electric, commuter rail lines which are known as the Metra. This commuter network covers over 487 kilometers and is served by two hundred and forty one stations.

THE CHICAGO LOOP

The Chicago Loop is a nine station, elevated rail loop which covers the downtown area of Chicago. This historic line, which is also known as the Union Loop, became operational in 1896 and went on to give the city of Chicago's whole rail transit system it's nick name of the L (Short for elevated).

Today the Loop, which is recognised all over the world due to it's many film and TV appearances, connects the downtown area of Chicago, which is also known as The Loop, with five of the L's eight lines - the Orange Line, the Green Line, the Purple Line, the Brown Line and the Pink Line.

SPORT

Chicago's premier sporting and concert venue is the United Center, home of the Chicago Bulls and the Chicago Blackhawks. The center can be accessed by way of the United Center Express bus service, # 19, which operates every ten minutes for ninety minutes before an event.

The bus can be caught outside the Millenium Station, which is served by the Red, Green, Brown, Orange, Pink & Purple lines of the L, the Ogilvie Center Station, which is served by the Green, Pink, Brown, Orange, Purple & Pink lines of the L or the Union Railway Station, which is served by the Brown, Orange, Pink, Purple & Blue lines of the L and both Metra commuter lines.

Alternatively bus route # 20 leaves Wabash Street Station, located on the city's Loop, which is served by the Brown, Green, Orange, Pink & Purple lines of the L, every ten minutes for ninety minutes before an event.

CLEVELAND

Cleveland, Ohio

The city of Cleveland has both a rapid transit system and a light rail system which make up it's city metro network.The rapid transit system, which became operational in 1955, is 31 kilometers long and consists of one line which is served by eighteen stations.

The city's light rail system, which became operational in 1920, is 29 kilometers long and consists of two lines which are served by thirty four stations.

The system, which is operated by the Cleveland Regional Transit Authority - RTA, was the first metro system in the United States to be linked to an airport when it's nineteen mile long, Red Line (Route 66), was opened in March 1955.

Cleveland is served by the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. The airport is served by it's own metro station located beneath the airport's terminal building. The station can be accessed by way of a lift located in the terminal's baggage claim area.The train, which is located on the Cleveland metro's Red Line (Route 66), departs the station every thirty minutes between 04.00 hours and 12.30 hours, and takes thirty minutes to connect with the city's Tower City Station, which is also served by the metro's Green Line (Route 67A) and Blue Line (Route 67).

RAIL

Cleveland's inter city railway station is located along the city's Memorial Shoreway. The station is served by the Blue Line (Route 67) of the rapid transit system and the Green Line (Route 67A) of the light rail system and also provides two Amtrak services, the Lake Shore service which links Chicago, Illinois and Boston in Massachusetts via New York City, and the Capitol service which links Chicago, Illinois with Washington D.C.

BUS

Cleveland's inter city (Greyhound) bus station is located along the city's Chester Avenue. The station is not served by either the rapid transit or light rail services.

SPORT

Cleveland's premier sporting and concert venue is located at the Gateway Sports and Entertainment Centre. The complex consists of the Quicken Loans Arena, known locally as The Q, which is home to the Cleveland Cavaliers basketball team and the Progressive Fields Arena, which is home to the Cleveland Indians baseball team.

The complex is accessed by way of a glassed in pedestrian walkway which spans the Ohio River and links the centre's lobby with the Tower City Public Square Station which is served by all three lines of the city's light rail and rapid transit.

The walkway is opened two hours before an event and is located at the end of the Tower City Center's food court.

DALLAS

Dallas, Texas

The city of Dallas has a 115.9 kilometer rapid transit network known as the DART which became operational in 1983. The DART consists of a four line, light rail network, an extensive bus network and a thirty four mile commuter service known as the Trinity Rail Express (TRE).

Dallas is served by the Dallas / Fort Worth International Airport. The airport is served by it’s own metro station on the DART’s Orange Line, which links with downtown Dallas where it terminates at Parker Railway Station on weekdays and terminates at the LBJ Central Railway Station at the weekends.

The train runs every day between the hours of 04.25 hours and 01.21 hours.

The airport station is called Belt Line Station and is accessed by way of the DART bus service # 500 from each of the airport’s terminals.

RAIL

Dallas' Union Railway Station is located along the city's South Houston Street. The station is served by the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) and the Red Line and the Blue Line of the city DART. The station also provides one Amtrak service, the Texas Eagle service, which links the city of Chicago in Illinois with the city of Los Angeles in California via the cities of St Louis in Missouri and Dallas and San Antonio in Texas.

BUS

Dallas' inter city (Greyhound) bus terminal is located along the city's South Lamar Street, which is easily accessible from the city's Union Railway Station.

HERITAGE TROLLEY

Dallas is also served by the M Line Trolley, also known as the McKinley Avenue Streetcar. This service, which operates seven days a week and is completely free to use, is a collection of historic trolley buses which are owned and operated by a non profit making, heritage society.

The service runs for 6.8 kilometers through the city’s Arts District and West Village and can be accessed by the city's DART service at the City Place station which is served by the DART's Red Line and Blue Line.

Dallas is served by three premier sporting and concert venues -

DENVER

Denver, Colorado

The city of Denver has a 56 kilometer, street level, light rail, mass transit system which became operational in 1994. The system consists of six lines which are served by ninety four stations.

The city is currently constructing a commuter rail link between Denver Union Station and Denver International Airport, which is planned to open in 2016.

Line C - 12 stations between Denver Union Railway Station and Littleton / Mineral.

Line D - 17 stations between Littleton / Mineral and 30th / Downing.

Line E - 18 stations between Denver Union Railway Station and Lincoln.

Line F - 18 stations between Lincoln and California / 18th / Stout.

Denver is served by the Denver International Airport. The airport is served by several bus routes for transfers into downtown Denver, Aspen, Aurora and Boulder, most of which operate daily between 03.30 hours and 01.00 hours. The buses leave from outside doors 504, 506 and 510 of the Jefferson Terminal, which are all located on Level 5 of the west side of the building.

Please try and have the correct bus fare, which can be anything between $9 & $13 depending on your destination, as the bus driver does not keep money on his person.

RAIL

Denver is served by the Union Railway Station which is located along the city's Wewetta Street. The station is served by Line C, Line E and Line W of the city metro system.

The station is also served by an entrance on the city's Wynkoop Street for passengers using its one Amtrak service, the Californian Zephyr, which travels between Chicago in Illinois and Emeryville in California.

BUS

Denver's inter-city (Greyhound) bus station is located along the city's 19th Street which is served by several of the city's bus services.

The stadium is served by a metro station of the same name located on the city metro's Line C, Line E and Line W.

DETROIT

Detroit, Michigan

The city of Detroit has a 4.8 kilometer elevated, automated (driverless) metro system known as the People Mover, which began operation in 1987. The system consists of one line which is served by thirteen stations which cover the city's financial district, historic center, sporting venues and cultural establishments, all of which pay homage to the city's former automobile and music history.

Detroit is served by the Detroit Metropilitan Wayne County Airport. The airport is served by two terminals both of which provide separate bus services for transfers into downtown Detroit.

The MacNamara Terminal is served by Bus # 125 which departs from outside the terminal for Fort Street, which is served by a station on the People Mover, every hour between 04.41 hours and 23.04 hours on Mondays to Fridays, between 06.30 hours and 23.03 hours on Saturdays and between 07.18 hours and 19.47 hours on Sundays. This journey takes around an hour.

The North Terminal is served by Bus # 280 which departs from outside the terminal every hour for Garden City Hospital between 06.00 hours and 23.00 hours on Mondays to Saturdays and between 05.55 hours and 19.55 hours on Sundays or Bus # 190 which departs from outside the terminal for the Fairlane Center every hour between 05.50 hours and 16.19 hours on Monday to Friday. Both journeys take around thirty minutes.

RAIL

Detroit is served by an Amtrak railway station known as the Station Building. The station is located along the city's West Baltimore Avenue and provides just the one long distance service, the Wolverine service, which travels between Chicago, Illinois and Pontiac, Michigan.

Detroit's long distance (Greyhound) bus station is located along the city's Howard Street but is not served by the city's People Mover.

The city's Rosa Parks Transit Center is located along the city's Cass Avenue and is served by the Cass station on the People Mover.

Houston, Texas

The state of Texas' largest city, Houston, has a 12 kilometer light rail system known as the METRORail . The system became operational in 2004 and presently consists of one line, which is known as the Red Line, which is served by twenty five stations, although the city also has another line presently under construction and another two lines in the planning stages..

The METRORail operates daily from 04.30 hours on week days or 05.30 hours on weekends and terminates at 00.00 hours on Mondays through to Thursdays, at 02.20 hours on Fridays and Saturdays and at 11:40 hours on Sundays.

Houston is served by the George Bush Intercontinental Airport. The airport is served by several terminals which are linked by way of an underground people mover. The airport's transport for links into downtown Houston are provided by one bus service, the # 102, which departs from outside the south side of Terminal C every half an hour or so between 05.21 hours and 12.01 hours on weekdays only.

The bus travels from the airport to La Branch and Gray in downtown Houston, a journey of around one hour twenty minutes, via the Greenspoint Transit Center which is served by a station on the METRORail. Please make sure you have the correct fare for the bus driver, which is around $1.50.

RAIL & BUS

The city of Houston is served by the Grand Central Station located along Washington Avenue. The station is served by long distance (Greyhound) and local bus services, the Sunset Limited Amtrak service, which travels between Los Angeles in California and New Orleans in Louisiana, and the city's METRORail.

SPORT

Houston is served by two premier sports, concert and entertainment venues -

The NRG Stadium, home of the Houston Texans, and the Toyota Center, home of the Houston Rockets. Both of these centres are vast with several amenities and entrances and exits, therefore it is better to take a taxi when visiting either of these venues so that you can explain to the driver exactly where it is you want to go.

INDIANAPOLIS

Indianapolis, Indiana.

The city of Indianapolis has a unique, privately owned, people mover, which is owned and operated by the city's Indiana University of Health - Clarion Health.

This type of people mover is quite usual at airports or large entertainment venues such as amusem*nt parks, but to have a people mover at a hospital or university is quite a rarity.

This 2.25 kilometer automated, elevated system runs 24 hours a day, is free for all to use and was built to transport the city's public health workers, university students, hospital patients and hospital visitors between the city's Methodist Hospital, University Hospital, Riley Children's Hospital and the Pathology Laboratory. Another feature of the system are two pneumatic tubes which have been placed between the train's dual tracks implemented for the use of express carriage of patient documents and samples.

The three carriage train runs every six minutes during the day and by an on - demand mode overnight.

Although the system resembles a monorail it actually runs on tracks, which have been built with gaps between them in order to alleviate the build up of snow during the Winter months.

This ground breaking system is neither a city metro system nor an urban rapid transit system, but as it is the only one of it's type in the U.S.A and possibly even the world, I felt it deserved a mention on this page.

Jacksonville, Florida.

Florida's most populous city, Jacksonville, has a 4 kilometer automated monorail known as the SkyWay. The Skyway, which began operation in 1989, consists of one line which is served by eight stations.

Jersey City, New Jersey

Jersey City is served by a vast inter - state rail network, which also links with the cities of Hoboken, Newark, Atlantic City and Philadelphia.

This large system, which became operational in 1979, also consists of a 172 kilometer commuter rail and light rail tram system, known as the New Jersey Transit, which consists of fourteen lines and two hundred and twenty stations, making this network the largest inter state, rapid transit system in the country.

Jersey City is also served by the 33.2 kilometer Hudson - Bergen electric light rail system and the 22.2 kilometer PATH (Port Authority Trans Hudson) underground system which links New Jersey with New York City via a tunnel under the Hudson River.

AIR

Miami is served by the Miami International Airport. The airport is served by the free to use MIA Mover, an elevated people mover which links each of the airport's terminal buildings with Miami's Central Railway Station. The people mover departs the airport every two minutes between 05.00 hours and 00.00 hours. Between midnight and five in the morning the MIA Mover is used by way of an on-demand call button.

The airport is also served by the TRI RAIL commuter service and the Amtrak Silver service.

RAIL & BUS

Miami is served by the Central Railway Station located along the city's North West 21st Street. The station is served by the city's MetroBus services, inter-city Greyhound bus services, the TRI RAIL commuter service, the Orange Line of the Metro Rail, the airport's MIA Mover and two Amtrak services, the Silver Meteor service and the Silver Star service both of which travel between Miami and New York City.

SPORT

Miami is served by two large sporting and entertainment venues -

The American Airways Arena, home of Miami Heat and Miami Sol, which can be accessed by way of Government Center Station on the Metro Mover Inner Loop and the Orange Line of the Metro Rail.

The Sun Life Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins, which, due to it's out of town location and vast size, is best accessed by way of a private car or taxi.

MINNEAPOLIS / ST PAUL

Minneapolis / St Paul, Minnesota

The twin cities of Minneapolis and St Paul are linked by way of a forty kilometer light rail system known as the TMETRO, which is short for Transit Metro. The system became operational in 2004 and consists of two lines which are served by fifty nine stations.

Blue Line - 14 miles - 19 stations between Target Field and Minneapolis / St Paul International Airport

Green Line - 26.8 miles - 40 stations between Target Field and St Paul Union Depot

AIR

The twin cities are served by the Minneapolis / St Paul International Airport, which is served by railway stations located at all of it's terminals, which use the METRO's Blue Line for transfers into downtown Minneapolis and St Paul.

RAIL

The twin cities are served by the St Paul Union Depot railway station located along East 4th Street in St Paul. The station is served by the Green Line of the METRO system and the Empire Builder Amtrak service which links the city of Chicago with Portland in Oregon or Seattle in Washington.

BUS

The twin cities long distance (Greyhound) bus station is located on the corner of 9th Avenue and Hawthorn Avenue in Minneapolis. The station is not served by the METRO but is located just a few minutes walk away from the Target Field metro station located on the METRO's Green Line.

SPORT

Minneapolis and St Paul are served by several sports and entertainment venues, including -

Target Field - home of the Minnesota Twins, which is accessed by it's own railway station on the METRO's Green Line.

Target Center - home of the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Minnesota Lynx, which can be accessed by the Warehouse District / Hennepin Avenue Station on the METRO's Green Line and the Blue Line.

NEWARK

Newark, New Jersey

The city of Newark has an underground, light rail system which became operational in 1935. With a further upgrade and extension in 2008 the single line system now consists of two lines which are served by eighteen stations, five of which are served by ground level light rail, tram style trains.

The city is also served by an airport monorail which consists of one line served by eight stations and four commuter rail lines.

Blue Line - 12 stations between Newark Penn Station and Grove Street.

Yellow Line - 6 stations between Newark Penn Station and Broad Street.

NORFOLK

Norfolk, Virginia

The city of Norfolk has an 11.9 kilometer light rail system, which is known as the Tide, which became operational in 2011. The system consists of one line which is served by eleven stations.

AIR

Norfolk is served by the Norfolk International Airport. The airport is not served by any public transport, but several car rental companies can be found in the arrivals hall and several taxi companies serve the area outside the terminal building.

RAIL

Norfolk is served by an Amtrak railway station located along the city's Park Avenue. The station is served by Amtrak's Northeast Regional Service which travels between Boston, Massachusetts and Lynchburg in Virginia.

The station is located adjacent to the Harbor Park baseball stadium which is served by the Harbor Park Tide station.

BUS

Norfolk's long distance (Greyhound) bus station is located along the city's Monticello Avenue. The station is open daily between 05.00 hours and midnight. The station is not served by the Tide although it's Monticello station is located just a few minutes walk away.

FERRIES

Norfolk is served by three paddle wheel river ferries which cross the Elisabeth River between Norfolk and the city of Portsmouth.

The two ferry crossings, which are served by four ferry terminals, are located between Waterside in Norfolk and High Street in Portsmouth and between Harbor Park in Norfolk and North Landings in Portsmouth.

Norfolk's premier sporting venue is the Harbor Park Stadium, home of the Norfolk Tides baseball team. The stadium is located along the city's Park Avenue, right next door to the city's Amtrak railway station and the Harbor Park Tide station. Portland, Oregon

The city of Portland has an 52.4 mile light rail system which is known as the Max (Metropolitan Area Express) which became operational in 1986. The system consists of four lines, with another currently under construction, which are served by one hundred and thirty stations.

Portland is also served by an 11.6 kilometer streetcar system which is served by eleven stops and one commuter rail service

Portland is served by the Portland International Airport. The airport is served by a train station on the Red Line of the Portland MAX, which is located outside the airport's baggage claim area.

The train runs between the airport and the suburb of Beaverton Transit Center, via downtown, where the Gateway Transit Center Station connects with the Blue Line and the Green Line, Rose Station connects with the Yellow Line, the Old Town / China Town Station connects with the Green Line and the Yellow Line and Mall Southwest 4th Avenue / Mall Southwest 5th Avenue Station connects with all lines of the Portland MAX.

At the Beaverton Transit Center passengers can also change for the Westside Express (WES) commuter service.

RAIL & BUS

Portland is served by the Union Station located along the city's North West Sixth Avenue. The station is located just a short walk from the city's Pearl District where the city streetcars can be accessed and provides several local and long distance (Greyhound) bus services.
